Welcome to the website of the Romanian Orthodox Church of Edmonton, Saints Constantine and Elena!

The Romanian presence in Alberta is over 100 years old. It started with the first Romanian Pioneers who came from Boian, Bucovina, in 1898 and settled 100 km north-east of Edmonton, a place they called Boian. Just a few years after their arrival, in 1905, they consecrated their new church, Saint Mary of Boian.

Fifty years later, in 1948, their descendents established the Romanian Orthodox Church of Edmonton, Saints Constantine and Elena. The church was consecrated on May 21, 1972.

Our parish is under the omophorion of His Eminence Archbishop Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese in the Americas, with the headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, USA, which is in canonical communion with the Patriarchate of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

The Harvest Festival

This year’s Harvest Festival will be held on September 26, 2015, at the Romanian Center. This is a fundraising for the kitchen renovation.
We extend our invitation to all of our members and supporters to participate in this event!
Tickets are $50.00/adults and $15.00/children (7-14 years).

The New Sunday School Year

On September 13, 2015, the New Sunday School year begins. Following the Divine Liturgy, a special service of invocation will take place for the students and their teachers.
We are very blessed and thankful to have highly qualified teachers who are dedicated to provide the best religious education for our children.
The parents are warmly advised to bring their children on a regular basis to the Sunday School Program.

Holy Virgin’s Dormition Fast

Between August 1-15, the Orthodox Church observes the Dormition Fast. During the two-week fast, besides the regular Sunday Liturgy, the following services will be held in our church:
– Thursday, August 6: Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM.
– Friday, August 7: Akathist to the Holy Virgin at 7:00 PM.
– Saturday, Aug. 8: Vespers at 6:00 PM.
– Friday, August 14: Vespers at 6:00 PM.
– Saturday, August 15: Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM.
Those who want to have their confession heard, can do so after any of these services.

Heritage Days

Those who want to volunteer at the Heritage Days (Aug. 1-3), are kindly asked to sign in the signing sheet at the Church or call Petrica Lacatusu at 780-444-6494.

Summer Schedule of Church Services

Due to the fact that Fr. George will be away between June 29 and July 31, there will be
some changes regarding our Church services. The church will be open every Sunday and Fr. Deacon Severian will serve the Akathist at 10:00 AM.
For any emergency, please call Fr. Mircea at 780-456-7737.
