Welcome to the website of the Romanian Orthodox Church of Edmonton, Saints Constantine and Elena!
The Romanian presence in Alberta is over 100 years old. It started with the first Romanian Pioneers who came from Boian, Bucovina, in 1898 and settled 100 km north-east of Edmonton, a place they called Boian. Just a few years after their arrival, in 1905, they consecrated their new church, Saint Mary of Boian.
Fifty years later, in 1948, their descendents established the Romanian Orthodox Church of Edmonton, Saints Constantine and Elena. The church was consecrated on May 21, 1972.
Our parish is under the omophorion of His Eminence Archbishop Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese in the Americas, with the headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, USA, which is in canonical communion with the Patriarchate of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Between August 1st and 14th the Orthodox Church has the Dormition of the Mother of God fasting period. This fast precedes the great Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God and was established by the Church as a special period for remembering the precious virtues of Virgin Mary and the fasting period with which, according to the Tradition, the Mother of our Lord prepared [more]
Between August 1-15, the Orthodox Church observes the Dormition Fast. During the two week fast, the following services will be held in our church:
– Saturday, August 2: Vespers at 6:00 PM.
– Wednesday, August 6: Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM.
– Friday, August 8: Akathist to the Holy Virgin at 7:00 PM.
– Saturday, Aug. 9: Vespers at 6:00 PM.
– Thursday, August 14: Vespers at 6:00 PM.
– Friday, August 15: Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM.
Those who want to have their confession heard, can do so after any of these services.
The Religion Olympic concluded another Sunday School year. We are proud to announce that two of our students (Matei and Elisabeta Sasu) have place first in their respective groups. Unending gratitude to our dedicated teachers: Veronica Ciocan, Ileana Gavriș, Gabriela Luca-Dămian and Vasilica Ionescu.

On the 125th anniversary since the passing into eternity of Mihai Eminescu (June 15, 1889), there will be a presentation about our national poet on Sunday, June 15, during the fellowship. A crown of flowers will be laid at Eminescu’s statue in the church yard.
Due to the fact that Fr. George will be away, between July 2 -August 1, there will be some changes regarding our Church services. The church will be open every Sunday and Fr. Deacon Severian will serve the Akathist at 10:00 AM. For any emergency, please call Fr. Mircea at 780-456-7737.
The families in charge of the fellowship during the month of July have been rescheduled for October-November.
